NIGHT ONE

ŚAILAPUTRĪ

Sacred Nature
Daughter of the Mountain, Śailaputrī roots Goddess in the body, the earth, and the living world. She begins Nine Nights with the recognition that embodied life is itself sacred.
Contemplations
Spiritual life does not require escape from the body or the world. Śailaputrī places sacredness directly within matter: earth, body, relationship, animal life, landscape. The first movement of Nine Nights is therefore not transcendence, but presence.

• Where in my life am I striving to transcend something that is asking to be lived?

• What would it mean to come home to my body, my relationships and the ordinary circumstances of my life?

• How might I embrace my human nature—and all of Nature—as sacred?
