hOMeward Bound!
In May, my mama suffered a stroke.
The subsequent diagnosis was Stage 4 Cancer—the news, an unexpected shock.
My mom has always been my best friend. She is my first teacher and spiritual guide. She is the one to whom I still turn, when life gets sticky or tricky. She also is the first to celebrate my victories.
In September, I am due to become a new mother.
I imagine being for my little girl the same source of love, light and inspiration that my mama has always been for me.
Mother is an archetype, or universal energy.
For me, as for many, the mom who birthed me and guided my personal development is the physical embodiment of that universal quality. Mother energy, however, crosses gender and expands boundaries. She is too abounding to fit inside one body or personality; and too dynamic to be measured. She is a vital pulsation that gestures through Nature, from the subtlest phenomenon to the grandest expressions of life. She is the energy coursing through the earth when new sprouts poke their way out of the dirt in springtime; as new babies everywhere take their first breath. She is the ebb and flow of the seasonal tide.
She helps to bring balance, peace and abundance into our lives.
My mama taught me to be a Soul Artist.
She taught me to embrace every situation that comes in life. To cultivate absolute gratitude and make something beautiful even of the toughest challenges. A Soul Artist is one who uses every opportunity in life—including the hurt, pain and confusion, to create a personal and authentic story. Your story gives your life meaning and purpose.
